Recommended. Everyone knows that director Guillermo del Toro (The Shape Of Water) loves monsters. And it was inevitable that he would eventually get to film Madeline Kahn’s (Young Frankenstein) little zipper neck. In addition, he loves to combine winsome maidens with his monsters. In this case, Mia Goth (MaXXXine) takes Madeline’s role as Elizabeth Frankenstein, giving her a lot more of Mary Shelly’s emancipation than the 1931 version. This is a very packed film, and maybe too long; however, the dramatic tension and visuals are spectacular, thanks to del Toro regulars, Dan Laustsen, Nightmare Alley, Cinematography, Brandt Gordon, Nightmare Alley, Art Design, Mike Hill, Nightmare Alley, Makeup Design and Kate Hawley, Crimson Peak, Costume Design). It’s fascinating that Frankenstein follows del Toro’s Pinocchio with another fable about The Other trying to become Real. In this, Jacob Elordi (Saltburn) is suburb and deserves the Oscar nom that Karloff never was allowed.
Dogs Bark . . . when the elephant passes.
