Not Recommended. With a heavy heart, Wicked: For Good is a letdown. The script has all of the confusion present in the first installment and two new songs, relative to the Broadway show, excusable, but wearying after waiting a year for some closure. And some of that closure was dropped on the continuity floor (where did the Tin Man go?). The great relief afforded by comic Bowen Yang (Wicked) also got kicked to the yellow-brick curb. One concluding plot element is absurdly changed from the book. All that said, Cynthia Erivo (Harriet) and Ariana Grande (Don’t Look Up) in their respective parts are still magical. Paul Tazewell (Wicked) deserves another Oscar for his costume design. The story is really about female friendship in a hostile world and if scripters Winnie Holzman (Jerry McGuire) and Dana Fox (Cruella) had made that more clear, Wicked: For Good would have been much, better.
Dogs Bark . . . when the elephant passes.
