Recommended.  “Everyone wants to be Adam Sandler. Even I want to be Adam Sander,” never said Cary Grant (Charade). But in Noah Baumbach’s (Marriage Story) new movie, George Clooney (Michael Clayton) is Jay Kelly and Adam Sandler (Uncut Gems) plays his manager/best friend. The story characterizes an A-list actor – – not unlike Clooney – – and the personal losses of being someone millions envy. It happens on a sweetly photographed (Linus Sandgrin, La La Land) train ride between Paris and the Teatro Petrarca in Arezzo – – an hour southeast of Florence – – where a lifetime tribute awaits. In surreal flashbacks, Kelly ponders the family and friendship chaos caused by his ambition. Also along for the ride . . . Kelly’s publicist (Laura Dern, Marriage Story) and Sandler reflect on their ancient coupling in a well-done scene. Watch out for some Hollywoodland Easter eggs! Jay Kelly is not a very profound movie, but it should offers a couple smiles.
