Recommended. I don’t think I’ve ever walked into a theater expecting a worse experience than this movie. So, I was pleasantly surprised by my first of many snickers. Fashion Week, this time, is staged in Italy and the difference is important. Fashion is more central to the business of Milan and to the story. The characters are older. Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) has picked up an HR handler and Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) is more polished but still insecure. Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt) is just as fraught, and Nigel (Stanley Tucci) remains Nigel. In sum, TDWP2 is no deeper than its older sister; however, the suggestion that Miranda has found something resembling a soul, skitters across the surface. The producers claim that the costs are reflective of the salaries of the four principals and not the absurd release hype. But, so what? The fun of the first movie is maintained.
